White feminists:

split-the-coast:

When you discuss the wage gap, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Only white women make $0.77 to a man’s dollar.
  • Black women make about $0.68 to a man’s dollar.
  • Latina women make about $0.58 to a man’s dollar.

Intersectionality matters.

Whelp. That didn’t really work out, now did it? Guys, how do we keep the core of our faith alive when there are people blatantly rejecting Church teachings!?

You do realize that there is a tradition of faithful dissent from the magisterium’s teachings, right? Many of us are exercising our prophetic ministry by speaking out for full inclusion and equality of LGBT Catholics. And believing in the primacy of conscience, even when it dissents from the official teaching (which is in question even by the episcopate) IS following doctrine.

I can disagree with a specific doctrine and still be Catholic. The Church is run by (imperfect) human beings and I don’t have to agree with every canon or teaching to be completely Catholic.

I cannot, in good conscience, be silent about LGBT rights. I am in a 7 year relationship with a woman and I think that coming from a straight male perspective I can really create change. I believe that a pluralist movement is a powerful movement, and the quickest way to end LGBT oppression is for diverse communities to stand solidarity with each other.

My Catholic school education also instilled a fire in me for social justice. I’m sure you can relate. ; ) Why did you get into feminism?

They’d probably be too busy mourning you to give a shit about what was in your purse.

If you can’t tell, PEEVE: When people think religious people (even SUPER-religious people) can’t empathize with people who do ~super scandalous~ things such as have sex or get drunk. Like… to the extent that if someone died and they found out that they were sexually active they’d spend time thinking about that.

Like, I know crazy religious people and I seriously can’t think of a single person, who if I died and they found condoms in my purse would be like ~Natalie has been ruined for me. She is dead and I am choosing to think about her possible sex life~. They’d be busy like, planning my funeral and praying for my soul. Which they’d do even if they had proof I was a virgin.

If same-sex civil marriage is legal, that doesn’t mean that the Church would have to administer the Sacrament of Matrimony to same-sex couples.

Advocating against same-sex civil marriage is, by its very nature, intruding into other’s lives and their civil rights. Upon the legalization of same-sex civil marriage the Church will still have the right to protect their meaning of marriage (1 man + 1 woman). However, telling people (many of other faiths) that they can’t civilly marry simply because of our own religious convictions is policing their lives in a way that actually pushes them away from Christ.

In my opinion, if we want to proclaim the Gospel and spread the good news, we must meet people where they are at. Denying them the civil right to marry their partner so that they may enjoy the same privileges heterosexual spouses receive is not protecting (the sacrament of) marriage simply because it has nothing to do with the sacrament.

In fact, disallowing homosexuals to express their romance and sexuality in a healthy way pushes them into anonymous sexual encounters, casual sex, and a world of promiscuity- a far worse sin than a committed and loving homosexual union.

Ultimately, the world has recognized that there is no strong secular argument towards banning same-sex civil marriage. Due to separation of church and state, imposing a civil law based upon one religion’s theology or canons doesn’t seem too constitutional.

I encourage anyone who hasn’t yet to sit down with a homosexual person and simply listen. Put aside your judgement of both the person and the ‘sin’ and actively listen to their narrative, their struggles, and their hopes. Christ is the Prince of Peace, and listening is a requirement of peace.

It is imperative that the entire Catholic community in the United States come to realize the grave threats to the Church’s public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres. The seriousness of these threats needs to be clearly appreciated at every level of ecclesial life. …

Here once more we see the need for an engaged, articulate and well-formed Catholic laity endowed with a strong critical sense vis-a-vis the dominant culture and with the courage to counter a reductive secularism which would de-legitimize the Church’s participation in public debate about the issues which are determining the future of American society.

That is something I can understand.

Sadly, I have come across so many people attacking these young (transgender) girls who are just looking to have a normal and happy life. And the article called them “crossdressers” which denotes someone who either part-time dresses in the other gender or does it for sexual reasons. I was outraged because these girls are full-time girls and they are children, not adults with fetishes.
